Rural communities may be interested in a recent study of best practices to improve the connection between transportation planning and land use planning in rural America. It was conducted through the National Cooperative Highway Research Program of the Transportation Research Board by Renaissance Planning Group in Charlottesville, Virginia, and ICMA in Washington, D.C.
The study presents an analysis of rural America and its diverse types of communities and provides a series of case studies of best practices. These practices include a community-based transportation system (Cutler-Orosi, California), community visioning (Hayden, Colorado), car sharing (Traverse City, Michigan), and corridor planning (western piedmont, North Carolina).
